Join the adventure on COLOS-8, the colony ship that was once the hope of humanity. You play as Oni Lim, a space engineer, who is trying to figure out what happened on the ship.

Awakened from cryo-sleep, your job is to find out how the infection onboard came to happen, and to try and save the remaining crew. It’s a great, spine-tingling adventure to give you a break from rom-coms and dating sims, so if you’re up for a little horror, this game is for you.

Tense Gameplay

The game play is the sort of tense action you get from games like Attack on Tarkov. The developers wanted you to feel the tension of being the only waking survivor of a massive attack on humanity. You have limited weaponry, limited ammunition, and tight quarters to defend yourself in.

If you fail, the damage done is savage and difficult to come back from. It’s not some easy action game where you slap around a monster and only lose a handful of health points. Every loss in the game contributes to an infection meter, which directly influences Oni Lim’s mind. Lose enough, and you won’t even remember if the decisions you make are yours, or the parasites.

The boss fights are especially difficult in Parasite Inside. You won’t be able to win these on firepower alone. You’ll have to use the environment itself, and a little ingenuity to get through these epic fights.

Thoughtfully Produced Cut Scenes

Of all the features of Parasite Inside, the cut scenes are probably the best of them. The developers seem to have taken note of all the downsides to cut scenes, and eliminated them. One example is that if you want to play the game but actually don’t want it to be erotic, you can. All erotic scenes have a “Safe For Work” option.

Another feature is that cut scenes have a pause button. No one likes getting thrown into an unexpected cut scene when we have to step away from the computer. You end up being forced to either miss the cut scene or ignore the situation that made you need to leave. This pause button is a very welcome feature to the game.

Variety in Scenes

If you do choose the “Not Safe For Work” version of these scenes, they are hot. There’s also quite a variety of them. The fully original soundtrack and audio are also notable here, with sound designed to increase feeling of isolation and horror as you go through the game.

Engineering Themed Puzzles

The game isn’t completely about finding survivors and killing aliens. As you go along there are also some light puzzles to solve which match Oni Lim’s engineering career. You’ll have to solve these to have a chance at fixing the ship and saving the remaining survivors.

These puzzles really add to the immersive experience of the game, and make you feel like you truly are an engineer at work on the ship.

Still in Development

Parasite Inside is well made and has a lot of features to it, but it’s still in development. Early testers have mentioned that some areas are too dark to successfully navigate through, and mention minor things like a lack of animations for basic tasks like taking pills.

While this may be a problem now, it’s likely these will be fixed as development continues. Game development is a process, and new iterations should have improvements. The developers are responsive and regularly adding updates, so it’s likely this game won’t be abandoned before development is complete.
